Welcome to Cape Cod CPR's Fit Testing Service. We provide quality, cost effective on-site respirator fit testing for all your employees that are required by OSHA regulations to wear a respirator while on the job.
Professionally fitted, NIOSH-certified masks are a safety requirement meant to protect against breathing air contaminated by harmful vapors, fumes, and particles. OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) requires employees to be medically cleared and fit tested before wearing a respirator; a physician or other licensed health care professional must review the employees’ medical evaluations.
Our staff is here to help you complete all OSHA mask fit testing requirements, provide respirator fit test kits, assist with OSHA reporting and paperwork requirements, and, ultimately, to help you protect your employees.
What Is A Respirator Fit Test?
A fit test is conducted to determine whether a respirator can be donned without risking any leaks. It can only be taken by an employee once they have been medically approved to wear a respirator on the job. If an employee’s job responsibilities require them to wear a tight-fitting respirator, they must undergo a respirator fit test beforehand. The test must be done using the same size, model, and design of the respirator they’ll be wearing on the job.
There are two types of respirator fit tests:
Qualitative Fit Test: This is a non-numeric test that depends on the wearer’s sense of smell and taste, or their reaction to a test agent (a substance) to detect any leakage into their respirator’s facepiece.
Quantitative Fit Test: A machine is used in this test to measure the leakage into the facepiece.
Cape Cod CPR provides the Qualitative Fit Test only.
